Gifting to Minors: Tax Traps, Trusts, and GST Planning   New

CATEGORY: Taxation
COURSE ID: W891T, VERSION 1.00
Webinar
2 CPE Credits

Help clients choose the right gifting strategy for children and grandchildren without creating avoidable gift tax, income tax, kiddie tax, GST, or reporting problems.

Advising clients on transferring wealth to minor children or grandchildren can look simple at first, but it requires advisors to navigate complex tax rules, fiduciary considerations, and reporting obligations. This 100-minute webinar provides tax practitioners, financial planners, and accounting professionals with a practical framework for evaluating gifting strategies to minor beneficiaries while optimizing gift, income, and Generation-Skipping Transfer (GST) tax outcomes.

Participants will analyze the tax mechanics, compliance traps, and income tax implications of primary minor-gifting vehicles, including UTMA/UGMA accounts, Section 2503(c) minor’s trusts, Crummey withdrawal trusts, and 529 qualified tuition plans. Special emphasis will be placed on qualifying for the GST annual exclusion, including direct skip qualifications under IRC Section 2642(c), managing kiddie tax calculations under Section 1(g), and avoiding common Form 709 reporting errors.

Who should attend: CPAs, EAs, tax professionals, and financial or accounting advisors who help individuals, families, or business owners evaluate gifts to children or grandchildren, related tax compliance, and family wealth-transfer planning.

THIS WEBINAR IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR CTEC OR CFP CREDIT.
