  Webinar
2 CPE Credits
Level: Basic

The death of a client triggers a wave of tax decisions, documentation requirements, and planning opportunities — and tax professionals are often the first line of support.

This webinar walks through the critical responsibilities surrounding a decedent’s final return and the related estate and trust filings. Attendees will learn how to identify which forms must be filed (including 1040, 1041, and 706), how to handle income and deductions across multiple entities, and what elections and valuation issues need to be addressed.

We’ll cover common real-world scenarios including tax benefits for a surviving spouse, portability elections, and asset step-ups, along with a discussion of Forms 1310, 4810, 5495, and 8971. Whether or not a taxable estate exists, clients and heirs will look to you for clarity — this session will help you provide it.

Who should attend: CPAs, EAs, and other tax professionals who support clients or families during estate administration. This session is especially useful for those who prepare final individual returns, fiduciary returns for estates and trusts, or who advise on estate planning matters.

THIS WEBINAR IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR CTEC OR CFP CREDIT.
