What is an Incident Response Plan (IRP)  

An Incident Response Plan (IRP) is a vital written document that helps organizations before, during, and after a confirmed or suspected security incident. It clarifies roles and responsibilities, provides guidance on key activities, and includes a cybersecurity list of key people who may be needed during a crisis. This short course gives a brief overview of an IRP and examples of testing if an entity responded to cybersecurity incidents in accordance with its incident response plan. Incident response plans typically apply to both suspected and confirmed incidents to ensure timely escalation and investigation. While auditors may test IRPs, testing and evaluation are also commonly performed by internal audit, risk management, compliance teams, security teams and external consultants.

This overview course may be appropriate for professionals at all organizational levels.
